Really?

So in my evening of insomnia last night, after attempting to read, attempting to write, attempting to draw, texting briefly, and eventually crying myself to sleep with fear, one of the things I did was pop on the t.v. and came across a movie preview that made me annoyed.

Let me start with posing a question...how many successful trilogy movies have there been? How many successful beyond-trilogy movies have their been? I can probably count on one hand. Star Wars was successful, the Harry Potters have been successful, LOTR has been successful, Rocky eh...

I'm disturbed by several things involved with, yet another, Mummy movie. The first one was great - something "new" (though it was a remake of sorts). The second one was even okay. The third one, "The Scorpion King" (because, let's face it, while it wasn't "The Mummy: The Scorpion King," it was still the third one - that pretty much sucked. ("The Rock" is a better actor in roles suited to him....being a middle eastern warrior "King" is not one of them....see "Conan.") So now we have The Mummy: The Dragon something or another. Tomb of the Dragon Emperor...that's it. Wait...what? Dragon?

Unless I've hit my head, there were not dragons in Egyptian mythology. From my understanding there are two types of dragons: European and Asian. Where does Egypt fall in there? There are African dragons I'm unaware of that look, remarkably, like European dragons (yes, there are set differences between European and Asian dragons). So we have the same actors: Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and the guy that is her brother that played in Four Weddings and a Funeral.

I turned on my computer and read the synopsis, "In the Far East, father and son unearth the mummy of the First Emperor." Okay that's enough right there. So let's blend a little cultures together. While I know mummification wasn't solely Egyptian, I think it's funny that we're hopping from one continent to the next, but maintaining the same characters and same plots. *shakes head*. That's kind of like Billy the Kid hopping over to Asia to fight the Huns (yes, I know the time periods are off, but you get the idea).

All of a sudden this movie is sprung upon us - no warning, nothing. Just "out in theatres August" whatever. I have a want to see it [when it hits DVD] to rip it to shreds.
